ToMTuR: Composting toilets with more comfort

Always hygienic on the go

Wherever there is no water connection, our toilet models are the best solution. They are simple, hygienic, odourless and absolutely environmentally friendly. Whether in a camper van, boat or Tiny House - ToMTuR toilets fit into the smallest space and offer maximum mobility at the same time.Because there is no need to refill water or empty the chemical toilet.

100% Eco-friendly

ToMTuR toilets collect urine and solids separately. Thanks to a smart trap door in the seat, this is particularly easy. Through a mechanical mixing with coconut fibres, the solid waste dries into an odourless substrate. All you have to do is empty the urine bottle every now and then and dispose of the solids in the compost or residual waste.

We at ToMTuR have been selling mobile composting toilets for over 5 years. We have used this experience to develop a new model. The innovative OGO® combines all the advantages of a well-designed separating composting toilet, but offers additional comfort and a completely revised look. The compact design makes it even easier to fit into small spaces.

What you should know about our composting toilets…

All ToMTuR toilets work according to the separating/composting principle. The urine is separated immediately when the toilet is used and collected in a tightly closed urine bottle. Depending on the model, it holds eight to nine litres.

The other excrements go into the solids container and are mixed with coconut fibres by means of a stirrer. The subsequent drying by a built-in fan finally produces a substrate that smells discreetly of forest soil and can be disposed of as compost. Depending on the model, the container can hold up to 80 usages - which corresponds to a journey of several weeks for a couple.

BTW:Our two models Nature's Head® and OGO® combine the advantages and sustainability of the composting principle with a very high comfort of use. The seat height is comfortable and the smart separation trap door in the seat makes the separate collection of urine equally successful for men and women. The stable construction and the easy installation will also convince you.

Do I have to sprinkle substrate after each use?

No. This is not necessary with our composting toilets. Since the substrate is already in the toilet, you simply close the trap door, turn the crank 2-3 times - or press the button for the agitator on the OGO - and you're done.

No need to stock up on substrate in the bathroom, no crumbling, no looking directly at the container to place the substrate....

Which toilet paper can I use?

Any toilet paper will work, thinner paper will not fill the bin as quickly. We personally use a small bucket for our paper to increase the emptying intervals, but you can do that however you like. We know a lot of our customers who dispose of all their paper in the toilet.

Wet toilet paper or wet cleaning wipes should never be disposed of in the solid waste bin as they will not compost and could wrap around the crank.

What is the alternative to coconut husk fibres?

We recommend coconut fibre for use with our composting toilets as it is a waste product of the coconut rope manufacturing process, making it a sustainable alternative to peat. They are also easy to store, transport and last forever.

They are not only available from us or via Amazon, but in Europe and many other countries in garden markets, e.g. also at IKEA (Odla) and at places where people buy plants and accessories. The names are different, e.g. humus brick, coco soil etc.. The same applies to the packaging sizes.

Alternatives? Composting toilets function odour-free when the contents of the solids container always remain dry. To ensure this, you need an absorbent substrate that takes in the moisture from the faeces, but also releases it again so that the fan can remove it.

Substances such as cat litter etc. would absorb the moisture but then clump together, which would mean that the toilet would not work or would only work for a short time.

Sawdust, bark mulch, small animal litter, leaves, hay, straw etc. do not absorb enough moisture and are therefore just as unsuitable. These substrates are only suitable for sprinkling for conventional dry separation toilets, where it is more about privacy than drying.

If you run out of coconut fibres while travelling, you could use peat or very fine sawdust.

Does composting work in cold temperatures?

Composting works above about 13°C. The warmer, the faster.

At lower temperatures, the process goes dormant; as soon as it gets warmer again, it continues.

Drying by the fan also works at low temperatures, making it possible to use the toilet even in cold conditions without any problems.
